The projects grow as the children grow

The same subject, made by children at four different stages of the programme. This is the difference between a craft activity and a curriculum.

1A very simple grey clay elephant made by a young beginner

Beginning

Ages 3–4
One shape, four legs, a trunk. Thick fingers, big pride.

2A clay elephant with shaped ears and pink inner-ear detail

Building

Ages 5–6
Better shape, shaped ears, pink inner detail, a tail.

3A more detailed clay elephant with textured skin and a patterned blanket

Developing

Ages 7–8
Proportion, textured skin, toenails, a patterned blanket.

4An advanced clay elephant with a decorated blanket, tassels and flowers

Advancing

Ages 9–10
Posture, a raised leg, beads, tassels, flowers behind the ear.

Six clay elephants of the same shape, each finished in different colours and details

Same starting point. Different imagination.

Every child in the room builds the same project, step by step with the instructor. Then they get fifteen minutes to make it theirs.

Thirty children start together. Thirty different elephants go home.

Built by teachers. Taught by trained instructors.

The two questions every principal asks before letting an outside programme into a classroom.

✏️

Who built the method

Pikiko’s teaching method was developed by art teachers, educators and art therapists. Every lesson is planned as a piece of teaching first and an activity second.

Pikiko is a creative enrichment programme, not a therapy. We make no clinical claims.

🎓

Who teaches your class

Every instructor completes thorough professional training before their first class, covering the curriculum, age-appropriate delivery, classroom management and materials handling.

All of them come from a background in teaching, instruction or working with children, and all are screened against the Department of Social Welfare Child Registry.

It looks like art. It works like learning.

Every session starts with something to discover. Children meet the week’s subject through a short story, a question or a picture — then build it with their own hands.

Each lesson arrives fully prepared, with its own facts, pictures and riddles, so the learning sits inside the making rather than beside it. No screens for the children — just their hands and the clay.

We don’t only teach children what to create.

We use every creation as an opportunity to teach them something about the world.
