Clay Programme

A year-long sculpting programme for children aged 3 to 10, delivered once a week inside your own classroom. Over thirty sessions across the school year, each one teaching something new and building on the last.

This is not a one-off art session. It is a planned curriculum, written by art teachers and educators, that happens to be enormous fun.

Why this is not an art class

Children’s art sessions are easy to find in Malaysia. This is a different thing entirely.

A typical children’s art class
The Pikiko Clay Programme
A one-off session, or a short holiday workshop
A full school year, once every week
Children make something and take it home
Children discover a subject first, then build it
Held at a studio or centre, parents arrange transport
Held in your own classroom, during the school day or after it
An activity for its own sake
A planned curriculum written by art teachers and educators
The same level of difficulty every time
Projects grow harder as the children grow
Fun, and then it is over
Fun is how the learning gets in

What children make

Clay Programme uses soft, lightweight air-drying clay that needs no oven and does not leave a mess in the classroom. Every week brings a different subject and a completely new creation.

Children learn how simple forms become animals, objects, food, vehicles, plants, buildings and characters of their own design. All projects are original Pikiko designs.

Each creation comes from a different world, and children learn something about that world as they build it. So the hour widens more than their imagination — it widens what they know.

What children practise

Shape

Rolling, pressing, pinching, flattening, forming.

Build

Joining, layering, construction, proportion.

Detail

Texture, colour, decoration, small features.

Design

Personal choices, independent ideas, self-expression.

From a ball of clay to something completely their own

Early lessons focus on achievable forms. As the year continues, projects introduce more pieces, smaller components, finer detail, better proportion and more independent decisions.

Our materials

  • Soft, lightweight air-drying clay — no oven or kiln
  • Non-toxic and safe for classroom use
  • No animal-derived ingredients
  • Full material information available on request

A non-figurative option

Some schools prefer projects that do not include people or animals. We offer an alternative project for every figurative week — food, plants, vehicles, buildings, landmarks, patterns, letters and objects.
