A whole year of learning, creativity and imagination

Every week brings something new. Every stage builds on the one before. Pikiko programmes are year-long progressions, not collections of unrelated craft projects.

The curriculum was developed by art teachers, educators and art therapists experienced in children’s learning, and is reviewed and improved every year.

One week, in full

A real lesson from the Clay Programme year.

🐙 This week: the octopus

From a question to a creature

Every one of the thirty-plus weeks works exactly like this: a subject, a build, a chance to make it their own, and a moment to share it.

Discover

Where does an octopus live? How many arms? How does it hide?

Create

Build the body, roll and attach eight arms, add the suckers.

Imagine

Choose colours, give it an expression, add your own details.

Celebrate

Share the finished octopus and link it back to the ocean.

What children explore

  • Animals, dinosaurs and ocean life
  • Nature, plants and the seasons
  • Space and simple science
  • Food and where it comes from
  • Transport and how things are built
  • Countries, cultures and famous places
  • Community helpers and professions
  • Celebrations through the Malaysian year
  • Friendship, kindness and values
  • Stories and imaginary worlds

All characters and projects are original Pikiko designs. We do not use characters owned by other companies.

Skills across the year

Children start with simpler forms. As experience develops, the curriculum introduces more detailed characters, more complex shapes, better proportion, smaller elements, more decoration, independent construction and creative problem-solving.

At the end of the year children should look back and see more than a pile of projects. They should see progress.
